Analysis of Markov-modulated Infinite-server Queues in the Central-limit Regime

چکیده
This paper focuses on an infinite-server queue modulated by an independently evolving finite-state Markovian background process, with transition rate matrix Q ≡ (qij)i,j=1. Both arrival rates and service rates are depending on the state of the background process. The main contribution concerns the derivation of central limit theorems for the number of customers in the system at time t ≥ 0, in the asymptotic regime in which the arrival rates λi are scaled by a factor N , and the transition rates qij by a factor N , with α ∈ R. The specific value of α has a crucial impact on the result: (i) for α > 1 the system essentially behaves as an M/M/∞ queue, and in the central limit theorem the centered process has to be normalized by √ N ; (ii) for α < 1, the centered process has to be normalized by N1−α/2, with the deviation matrix appearing in the expression for the variance.

Time-scaling Limits for Markov-modulated Infinite-server Queues
In this paper we study semi-Markov modulated M/M/∞ queues, which are to be understood as infinite-server systems in which the Poisson input rate is modulated by a Markovian background process (where the times spent in each of its states are assumed deterministic), and the service times are exponential. Two specific scalings are considered, both in terms of transient and steady-state behavior. I...
متن کاملA Central Limit Theorem for Markov-Modulated Infinite-Server Queues
This paper studies an infinite-server queue in a Markov environment, that is, an infinite-server queue with arrival rates and service times depending on the state of a Markovian background process. Scaling the arrival rates λi by a factor N and the rate qij of the background process by a factor N, with α ∈ R, we establish a central limit theorem as N tends to ∞. We find different scaling regime...
متن کاملMarkov-modulated infinite-server queues: approximations by time-scaling
This paper studies an infinite-server queue in a semi-Markov environment: the queue’s input rate is modulated by a semi-Markovian background process, and the service times are assumed to be exponentially distributed. The primary objective of this paper is to propose approximations for the queue-length distribution, based on time-scaling arguments. The analysis starts with an explicit analysis o...
متن کاملHeavy-traffic limits for many-server queues with service interruptions
We establish many-server heavy-traffic limits for G/M/n + M queueing models, allowing customer abandonment (the +M), subject to exogenous regenerative service interruptions. With unscaled service interruption times, we obtain a FWLLN for the queue-length process where the limit is an ordinary differential equation in a two-state random environment. With asymptotically negligible service interru...
متن کاملRefined large deviations asymptotics for Markov-modulated infinite-server systems
Many networking-related settings can be modeled by Markov-modulated infinite-server systems. In such models, the customers’ arrival rates and service rates are modulated by a Markovian background process; additionally, there are infinitely many servers (and consequently the resulting model is often used as a proxy for the corresponding many-server model). The Markov-modulated infinite-server mo...
